COAST TO COAST TOURS
– FINALISTS –
IN MANAAKITANGA AWARDS 2009
SEPTEMBER 28 2009…
The Manaakitanga (Hospitality) Awards aim to showcase and reward those who deliver excellence in hospitality and tourism. From 16 categories, 4 finalists were chosen from each.
Coast to Coast Tours is a finalist in the SUSTAINABILITY section.
As innovators of a UNIQUE-to-Auckland Carbon Credit Native tree planting project which helps offset the emissions from the day’s travel, this is quite an achievement for our [small] company, (especially after the extent we went through to obtain strict covenants to protect the trees and land where they are planted on).
In recent years, two Maori words have become very significant in New Zealand Tourism. These are;
KAITIAKITANGA – The guardianship and sustainable management of natural, built and cultural resources for the collective benefit of current and future generations
MANAAKITANGA – The sharing of exceptional and natural hospitality, knowledge and beliefs, on the basis of mutual respect between host and visitor.
These are central to the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015
Coast to Coast Tours also upholds the principals of LOCAL operation, and re-direction of profits back into ‘our’ community.
“Thank you to all of you who voted for us”
…even though we did not win an award, we had a great night out!
