Donna is of Ngai Tahu Maori descent, and during your Auckland tour you will get to hear some interesting Maori culture…and more!

You will be welcomed into Motutara Homestead with a traditional mihi (welcome). Coast to Coast Tours has their own kaitiaki (guardian) carving which was commissioned from a Maori master-carver (Louis Kereopa), using an old totara fencing post which was on our property before our family arrived in 1922. The totara wood is prized by Maori for their carvings, so was great to see this wood used. The kaitiaki is named Tahu Potiki (which means the youngest child).

Donna’s marae (home meeting place) is Waihao in Waimate (South Island).

Waihao marae  Donna's Marae 25-03-2008 1-21-45 p.m.    Te Huruhuru's grave site. (Our tribe is descended from this great chief)

She is a direct descendant of Chief Te Huruhuru, a strong man who still had the ability to lead his people even though he was paralysed from the waist down!

You’ll hear our history and touch these artifacts when you tour our Homestead.
